Suicides are one of the leading causes of teen deaths in today’s society. The thought of one ending his or her life is developing in the minds of teenagers around the globe. â€Å"To kill oneself as a means of escape from poverty or disappointed love, or bodily or mental anguish, is the deed of coward rather than a brave man, because to run away from trouble is a form of cowardice. While it is true that the suicide braves death, he does it not for some noble object but to escape some ill† (Marcovitz 17). There are many reasons to why a person may put his life at risk, such as depression, stress, loss of a loved one, or being bullied. Suicide is rising all over the world and needs to be looked at as a worldwide threat. People may become more antisocial and would want to be left alone more frequently. They may start to keep to themselves more often and become more quiet around other people. People need to start paying more attention to others and try to see if there are any signs of depression. By noticing if a friend is showing personality changes, or becoming more depressed, it is much easier to get help in the early stages of depression, rather than the end. Suicide is the answer to some people when they may fear the future. Anger can be another cause or feeling that something might be his or her own fault (Schleifer 31). Some other motives for suicide may include doing badly in school, divorcing parents, experiencing violence at home, being rejected by friends or losing a loved one (Marcovitz 49). When it comes to suicide, depression is probably the greatest factor. Depression is related to two-thirds of all suicides today (Suicide and its Prevention 2). Although depression is not permanent, it can last for some time if it is not treated. Depression can last for as long as someone allows it to. â€Å"When the depression lifts, the teen suddenly may have the ability to plan his or her death, to make decisions about how and when it will happen, and to carry out those plans† (Galas 71-72).
